This School Held A 'Reality Check' Event To Teach Students What It's Really Like To Be An Adult Kids Activities Blog
Can I only give a huge KUDDOS to this schoolhouse? Every. Single. Schoolhouse. should do this!!
Yukon High School in Oklahoma recently held their annual 'Reality Check' effect where kids were given quite the reality check and given tasks to encounter what information technology'due south like to be an adult.
Freshman students are assigned a random annual income before traveling to booths like housing, clothing, insurance, and child care to brand virtual payments from their budget.
Holy moly this is genius!!
I cannot even being to tell you that I wish this was something I was taught at a immature age and is something nosotros are educational activity our kids now at home because it'southward so of import!
This school believes it's of import too and is doing what they can to prepare students for the real world.
They posted on Facebook maxim:
Although they must visit every booth, they are empowered to make their own personal decisions. One 9th grader reflected, "I got $35,000 which I thought was really good, but now I'm downwards to $20 and still have bills…I may have gone a little crazy with the nice truck." Once they've paid their bills, the students who accept money leftover receive a KitKat, while those with $0 left in their bank account receive a Zero bar.
This is an opportunity for the students to gain a deeper understanding of how their parents live on a twenty-four hour period-to-day basis. It really puts things in perspective and gives them some real world experience and therefore, a better thought of what to expect in the future" said YHS teacher, Darryl Andrews.
I cannot limited how much I dearest this. I truly believe we need to brand classes like this mandatory in every school and I am so happy to encounter a school doing this!
